FREDERIK MALMQVIST
Exactly one hundred years ago the great Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz died, and one of his most important works, the piano work Iberia Suite wil be presented at this concert - played by Frederik Malmqvist, who is probably the only Danish pianist playing the work in full.
Frederik Jerichau Malmqvist is currently studying in the soloist class at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Århus with professor John Damgaard. He began his studies with Poul Rosenbaum and since 1995 he has also been studying with professor Peter Feuchtwanger in London and participated in masterclasses given by Peter Feuchtwanger all over Europe. In many of these masterclasses he has been Peter Feuchtwanger’s assistant.
Frederik Jerichau Malmqvist has won a gold medal and a special talent award in competitions arranged by the leading Danish newspaper “Berlingske Tidende” and many other prizes in various competitions in Denmark. He has given numerous recitals in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and England (including recitals at St. Martin in the Fields). He has played piano concertos by Beethoven, Mozart and Schumann with orchestra. Masterclasses with Jerome Lowenthal, Norman Krieger, Jeremy Menuhin and others. He has also had lessons with Alicia de Larrocha in Barcelona. He has received many scholarships from the Augustinus Foundation and in 2003 he received the “Betty and Valdemar van Hauen’s scholarship” at a concert in the Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen.
Frederik Jerichau Malmqvist is starring in Peter Feuchtwanger’s video “Piano Exercises” and Jan Schmidt Garre’s documentary about Wilhelm Furtwängler, “Furtwängler’s love”. In 2005 he appeared as a soloist in Mozart’s d minor concerto with the Århus symphony orchestra and conductor Giancarlo Andretta.
